about

This song came out of our writing sessions at this converted chapel we rented. Here's a tip as a songwriter - approach a song as a joke and write a parody of something. I started singing this pretend melody and lyric in the style of the Cure (Robert Smith) and pretty much immediately realized it was actually good. Sometimes you gotta joke around and take things less seriously to get at the genuine emotional core of something. The song is about the fear of being apart from someone and becoming entangled with somebody else - or of that happening with your partner. It's a long distance love song - a tired of being alone song.

lyrics

I was ending a dream, trying to find what it means
I was grasping at memories
And I reached out for you
Not to wake you
I knew that you weren’t there
But still I reached

I don’t want to spend another minute apart
I don’t want to figure out the limits of my heart
I don’t want to hear you tell me every single way you miss me
Lightning strikes and I’m waylaid

Feeling safer alone
Feeling saner when low
And it scares me, this comfort zone
And my body has aged since you saw it
I fade from magenta, to pink, to grey

I don’t want to spend another minute apart
I don’t want to figure out the limits of my heart
I don’t want to hear you tell me every single day you miss me
Lightning strikes and I’m waylaid
I don’t want to spend another minute apart
I don’t want to figure out the limits of my heart
I don’t want to hear you tell me every single day you miss me
Lightning strikes and I’m waylaid

Perpetual adoration, perpetual adoration
Perpetual adoration, perpetual adoration
Perpetual adoration, perpetual adoration
Perpetual adoration, perpetual adoration
Perpetual adoration, perpetual adoration
Perpetual adoration, perpetual adoration
Perpetual adoration, perpetual adoration
Perpetual adoration, perpetual adoration
Perpetual adoration, perpetual adoration
